Aerobic Exercise Reduces Arthritis Pain
Aerobic Exercises
-
Aerobic exercises are those that utilize a continuous rhythmic activity of the larger muscle groups in your lower extremities and it helps strengthen your cardiovascular system. Aerobic exercises are easier on your joints which is a major plus for anyone that suffers from arthritis. Aerobic exercise should be done for 20 to 30 minutes a day, the recommendation used to be that you do that three times a week. Now, however, the guideline for exercise for healthy Americans is that you exercise everyday and aerobic activity should take up 30 minutes of the recommended 90 minutes. Aerobic exercises can be broken up in to 10 minute increments through out the day. This also makes it easier on your joints.
-
Aerobic exercises though will help strengthen your joints as well as improve flexibility. These two factors alone will help you fight joint fatigue and reduce pain. And while having swollen painful joints and thinking about having to exercise may seem like pouring gasoline on a raging fire to put it out, aerobic exercises are really the easiest exercises to do, they include walking, swimming, running and aerobic classes, either in a room or in the pool.

It is important that you listen to your body and understand your pain so that you are not actually doing more harm than good. When we are talking about walking or swimming, we are talking about a few laps not doing a marathon. If at first all you can do is walk around the block one time, then do that everyday until you are ready to go to two times around the block and so on. Alternating exercises as well, so that one day you are walking and the next day you are swimming will help prevent getting too tired of your routine and will alternate the level of impact and intensity that is put on your joints while exercising.
-
Exercise is so vital to you being healthy, even if you have arthritis because it offers you a total body “improvement plan.” The stronger your muscles are the better for your joints If the support structured around the joint helps alleviate the stress that is put on our joints everyday. Exercise will help you keep your bones healthy. Regular exercise will help you maintain a healthy weight. Less weight means less stress on the arthritic joints which then means less pain.
-
Any way you look at it, the best prescription for alleviating pain is exercise. Aerobic exercise being the best overall exercise with the least amount of stress on your joints.
