The Use of Isometric Exercises

  • It has been long thought that the best way to alleviate the pain of arthritis was with the use of medication or with rest depending on the severity of the arthritis. Lack of movement of a joint, all of our joints, actually sets us up to be in more pain when we attempt to do everyday activities. It is now a much more recommended therapy to include regular exercise in your daily routine to help cope with the pain associated with arthritis.

  • While there is no cure for any type of arthritis there are treatments, and one that is by far the most beneficial is then the incorporation of exercise. One type of exercise that you may want to include or start is isometric exercises. It is a scientific fact that one, with exercise your body produces endorphins which are our body’s own pain reliever and two that isometric exercises produce a greater force of a contraction of a muscle then with lifting weights.

The Use of Strength Training

  • There are over one hundred different types of arthritis, and therefore there are hundreds of different types of pain associated with arthritis. With chronic pain being the leading cause of disability in the U.S., it is important that we are looking at our pain and how to deal with it. Part of the big push now is to incorporate daily exercise into our routines either couple with medications or with out, exercise is vital to joint health and pain relief.

  • There are many different forms of exercise that people can do to improve the function of their joints and alleviate some of that everyday pain that those with arthritis suffer with. One type of exercise to consider is strength training. Strength training will make your muscles stronger. Strength training exercises increase your muscle strength, endurance and stamina. These strong muscles are needed to help support our joints. Stronger muscles take away so of the pressure on the joint which then alleviates pain.

Aerobic Exercise

  • One may believe that it is paradoxical for a person with arthritis would exercise to relieve pain. The truth of the matter is that exercise is probably the best prescription to help alleviate pain.

  • We know that arthritis affects millions of Americans, more women then men and while it usually targets the elderly arthritis can afflict anyone. Arthritis usually settles in the joints of a person, causing painful swelling and redness an it would seem that if we wanted to take that pain away, using it would not be what was recommended, but it is. If you suffer from arthritis, you are actually doing yourself more harm then good by being immobile or babying the joints that hurt you the most.

  • The key to improving the status of your arthritic joints is to begin an exercise routine, daily. We know that there is no cure for arthritis regardless of the type that you are diagnosed with, and that none of us really want to take more medication then absolutely necessary so the alternative then is exercise.

  • Tufts University published a study that showed that men and women that exercised daily and had been diagnosed with moderate to severe arthritis saw a 43% reduction in pain and that overall exercise was just as effective if not more so then pain medication in reducing pain. Aerobic exercises are probably the best overall not only for you health but to relieve your arthritis pain.
